No more wondering if you missed something.

Learn the framework for a complete abdominal ultrasound study so you know what to capture, what to measure, and what your specialist needs for interpretation.

Finding the liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder is only the beginning. Learn to systematically evaluate everything in between, including the structures a rushed or partial scan can skip without you realizing it. Build a complete, repeatable approach to the bowel, pancreas, adrenals, biliary tree, lymph nodes, mesentery, and the other structures that turn a basic scan into a diagnostic study. What you don’t scan can be the difference between a diagnostic study and “no significant findings.”

Kristin Welch, DVM, DACVECC

Criticalist

Dr. Welch has performed diagnostic ultrasound at high volume for more than 20 years, in referral and specialty practice, emergency and critical care, and mobile ultrasound services. An educator since 2006, she has taught ultrasound to hundreds of veterinarians and veterinary technicians at conferences, wet labs, and on-site in clinics, from new graduates and technicians picking up the probe for the first time to experienced practitioners refining their technique. That high case volume across very different practice settings, combined with two decades of hands-on teaching, is what shaped the complete, repeatable scanning protocol she teaches here. Dr. Welch is a board-certified emergency and critical care specialist (DACVECC) and founder of DVM STAT Consulting, a 24/7/365 teleconsultation service providing board-certified specialty support to hundreds of veterinarians across North America. She earned her DVM from Michigan State University, completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania, and a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Tufts University. Before launching DVM STAT in 2019, she worked in academia, led an ECC service for a decade, and co-founded a regional specialty and emergency hospital, experience that also gave her hands-on grounding in practice startup, hospital design, and practice leadership. Her mission is to make advanced expertise accessible to every veterinarian, helping practices deliver high-quality care in-house while maintaining client trust and affordability. Dr. Welch is passionate about supporting early career practitioners, with additional clinical interests in trauma and transfusion medicine and complex metabolic emergencies.

“Five stars!!! Dr. Welch is a fantastic ultrasound instructor. She gives a great overview as well as focusing on areas of individual interest. She took the time to troubleshoot our machine and teach us how to use our machine specifically! Dr. Welch is also down to earth and makes you feel comfortable asking any and all questions.”

Caroline Seelinbinder, DVM

“Dr. Welch’s ultrasound training was so helpful and really focused on the key areas that we can use our ultrasound machine in everyday practice and build on our skill set to provide our patients with the best medicine we can. She helped us understand all the confusing knobs and buttons on our machine so we can get better quality images of our patients. I would highly recommend this training if you are bringing ultrasound into your practice or you need some refresher skills.”
